I am in the process of researching resin systems that are compatible with jewelry applications. Whether coating, doming or casting (along with the mold making component), applications, I am interested. I have found a multitude of resources, not all of it aimed at the applications I am interested in. Unfortunately a lot of the information is scattered around the web, in books and on web pages (usually aimed at a particular application). Some of it can, indirectly, be applied to applications compatible with jewelry. My hope is to have a resource that I can refer to, as well as others, that coordinates and presents a more cohesive
This is a work in progress at this time, as well I am experimenting with blogger's stand alone pages to better organize my blog. This is the outline of the research I am doing. This ultimately will culminate in pictorial examples of my own work in this exploration.
Please comment, add information or links as you see omissions in this document. As well if you are currently delving into this interesting medium as an art form, perhaps we can collaborate. My focus in terms of size is of course something that is wearable. When you get into something bigger than say a 1/2 of a sheet of standard paper, then you are talking about the necessity of a support structure. Perhaps at a later stage I will be looking beyond jewelry sized applications.
My ultimate goal will be to learn as much as I can about resin systems, their applications, where I can 'push the envelop' and to learn about misinformation that I have encountered along the way.
- As in any discipline, there are things written about a subject that contains, if not misinformation, at least use of terms that may lead you to wrong assumptions because they are not adequately defined.
In this day of expensive materials due in part to dwindling resources , I am ever striving to find materials that can be acquired, fabricated, or scrounged from materials that are free, inexpensive, and otherwise on a path to our landfills or oceans.
